Health, Nutrition & Public Health
For many rural households, the nearest qualified doctor is hours away and a check-up is a cost they postpone until it's unavoidable. ECCON brings essential health, nutrition, and wellness support closer to where people live — before small problems become emergencies.
Distance, cost, and awareness gaps keep basic healthcare out of reach for many of the communities we work with — often turning treatable conditions into prolonged suffering. A mother without antenatal check-ups, a child without adequate nutrition, an elder without anyone to notice a decline: these are the gaps our health programs are built to close.
ECCON's health work spans the full arc of care — from awareness and screening, through maternal, child, and elderly wellbeing, to the diagnostic and blood-support services that back up a medical emergency when it happens.
Medical Camps and Health Awareness Programs
Bringing basic care to the doorstep
Many villages go months without seeing a qualified health worker. Our medical camps bring free check-ups, screenings, and basic treatment directly to underserved communities, paired with awareness sessions that help people recognise symptoms and act on them early.
- Free general health check-up and screening camps
- Awareness sessions on common preventable illnesses
- Referral support to nearby hospitals for follow-up care
- Partnerships with local doctors and medical volunteers
Maternal and Child Healthcare
Protecting the earliest, most fragile stretch of life
The first years of life and the months around childbirth carry the highest risk for both mother and child. We support antenatal and postnatal care access, track child growth and immunisation, and train frontline health workers to catch warning signs early.
- Antenatal and postnatal check-up support
- Child growth monitoring and immunisation tracking
- Safe delivery and institutional birth awareness
- Training for frontline health and anganwadi workers
Nutrition and Wellness Initiatives
Building health from the ground up
Malnutrition quietly undermines the impact of every other health effort. We run nutrition screening and supplementation programs for children and mothers, and promote kitchen gardens and dietary awareness that give families more control over what they eat.
- Nutrition screening for children and pregnant women
- Supplementary nutrition support for at-risk groups
- Kitchen garden promotion for household food security
- Community education on balanced diets and hygiene
Mental Health and Elderly Care
Caring for the needs that often go unspoken
Mental wellbeing and the needs of older adults are frequently overlooked in rural health outreach. We run awareness sessions to reduce stigma around mental health, organise elder care and companionship visits, and connect people to counselling and support where it's needed.
- Community awareness sessions to reduce mental health stigma
- Counselling referral support for individuals and families
- Elderly health check-ups and companionship visits
- Support groups for caregivers of elderly family members
Diagnostic and Healthcare Support Services
Closing the gap between symptom and diagnosis
A diagnosis delayed is often a condition worsened. We connect communities to affordable diagnostic testing, support patients navigating referrals to larger hospitals, and help offset the transport and paperwork barriers that stand between a symptom and proper treatment.
- Access to affordable basic diagnostic testing
- Patient navigation and hospital referral support
- Assistance accessing government health scheme benefits
- Coordination with hospitals and diagnostic partners
Blood Donation and Thalassemia Awareness Programs
Keeping a life-saving supply within reach
Blood shortages hit thalassemia patients and emergency cases hardest, especially outside major cities. We organise regular blood donation camps, raise awareness about thalassemia screening and prevention, and support patients who depend on regular transfusions to stay well.
- Regular voluntary blood donation camps
- Thalassemia screening and awareness drives
- Support coordination for regular transfusion patients
- Partnerships with blood banks and hospitals
Why our approach works
These six focus areas aren't run as separate programs — they're designed to reinforce one another on the ground, guided by a few principles that shape every health project we take on.
Community-centered
Every camp and program is planned around the households it serves — not delivered as a one-size-fits-all outreach visit.
Science-based
Screening data and referral outcomes — not assumptions — guide where the greatest health needs actually lie.
Locally rooted, widely relevant
Care is delivered by workers who know the community, then modelled in ways nearby villages can replicate.
Built for the long term
We follow up beyond a single camp or visit, because health outcomes are built through consistent care, not one-off events.
