Women, Youth & Child Development
A community grows only as strong as the women, young people, and children within it are supported to grow. ECCON works across all three groups at once — building confidence, protection, and opportunity into the years that shape a lifetime.
Women, youth, and children often carry the least decision-making power in a household, yet their wellbeing determines the trajectory of the next generation. A woman without financial independence, a young person without direction, a child without protection — these gaps show up quietly, but their consequences last decades.
ECCON's work here is built around that connection — empowering women economically and socially, giving young people leadership skills and purpose, and protecting children's right to safety and education, all anchored in the community institutions that make these gains stick.
Women Empowerment Initiatives
Building independence, one decision at a time
Real empowerment shows up in the everyday decisions a woman is able to make for herself and her family. We run programs on legal rights awareness, leadership building, and economic independence that give women the confidence and standing to participate fully in household and community decisions.
- Legal rights and entitlements awareness sessions
- Leadership and confidence-building workshops
- Support for women's economic independence and enterprise
- Awareness on gender-based violence and support access
Youth Leadership Programs
Giving young people a stake in their community
Young people are often the most capable agents of change in a village, but rarely given the platform to lead. We run leadership training, youth clubs, and civic engagement programs that build decision-making skills and give young people a genuine voice in local development.
- Youth leadership and public speaking training
- Formation of village-level youth clubs and councils
- Civic engagement and community decision-making exposure
- Mentorship connecting youth to role models and opportunities
Child Protection and Education
Safeguarding the years that shape a lifetime
Children are the most vulnerable to disruptions in schooling, safety, and care, and the least able to advocate for themselves. We work on child rights awareness, school enrollment and retention, and protective mechanisms that keep children safe, in school, and able to grow up on their own timeline.
- Child rights awareness for families and communities
- School enrollment and dropout prevention support
- Protection mechanisms against child labour and abuse
- Safe spaces and after-school support programs
Financial and Digital Inclusion
Bringing tools of independence within reach
Access to a bank account or a smartphone means little without the confidence to use them safely and well. We build financial and digital literacy among women and young people specifically, helping them manage money, access formal credit, and use digital tools without falling prey to fraud.
- Bank account access and savings habit-building
- Basic digital literacy for women and youth
- Safe use of digital payments and online services
- Awareness on financial fraud and scam prevention
Self-Help Groups and Community Institutions
Turning individual effort into collective strength
Change holds when it's built into an institution, not just an individual habit. We help form and strengthen self-help groups and community-based organisations that give women and youth a structured way to save, borrow, advocate, and support one another over the long run.
- Formation and strengthening of self-help groups
- Group savings and internal lending systems
- Federation of groups into larger community institutions
- Leadership training for group office bearers
Sports, Culture and Life Skills Development
Building confidence outside the classroom too
Growth doesn't only happen at a desk. We organise sports programs, cultural activities, and life skills sessions — teamwork, communication, decision-making — that help children and young people build confidence, discipline, and social skills alongside their academic education.
- Community sports programs and tournaments for youth
- Cultural activities and creative expression programs
- Life skills training on communication and teamwork
- Mentorship linking sports and culture to personal growth
Why our approach works
These six focus areas aren't run as separate programs — they're designed to reinforce one another on the ground, guided by a few principles that shape every program we take on.
Community-centered
Every program is shaped with the women, youth, and families it serves — not designed for them from outside.
Science-based
Enrollment, safety, and participation data — not assumptions — guide where support is most urgently needed.
Locally rooted, widely relevant
Programs reflect each community's social fabric, then get refined into models other villages can adopt.
Built for the long term
We follow individuals and groups across years, because confidence and independence are built gradually, not overnight.
